To Stripe or not to Stripe?
Pronunciation:/strʌɪp/
noun
Zebra crossings, wasps, and as my fiance says, "Wembley"...all possess and emit a powerful visual. In terms of Interior Design, this striking effect creates drama and texture on walls, ceilings and upholstery. The great thing about stripes is by slightly changing orientation, the designated wall, replacing upholstery, or even adding 'striped' accessories in your home a dramatic change to the overall look and feel of your space can be achieved.
Below are some interior inspirations to create this look in your own home. From safe but beautiful examples to the wild and courageous. At the end you will also find a tutorial on how best to achieve these stripy stripes!
1) The Bold and the Beautiful
How gorgeous is this updated Lois-XV armchair? The stripes and vibrant colours captured in the fabric lifts the once classic and traditional nature of the piece.
2) The Over-Zealous
The stripes dont have to end on the wall, this example progresses the stripes onto the ceiling. I don't think i would fancy DIY'ing that at home, best leave to the professionals! That said, this creates a very interesting effect.
3) The Modern Artiste
The muted colour palette softens the broad horizontal stripes. The clever use of one metallic paint for the central stripe adds texture and curiosity.
5) The Craftsman
A beautiful way to lift a flat, one colour, painted wall. Here varnish has been used to create stripes on the wall, which again adds depth and character to the interior space.
6) The Traditionalist
I love here how the wall design has been captured into carefully chosen soft furnishings within the room. If this space had just the wall covering in the stripe decor, it would be pleasant yes, however the matching upholstered chair immediately adds character and life to this room.
7) The...
Monocrome madness!! Thought i'd save the most courageous til last! Its so dramatic, i love it. Again, as with all these bold examples, the furnishings are kept to a minimum, to allow the walls to speak for themselves...

This very 'Missoni-esq' gorgeous wall covering is very dramatic...maybe too dramatic for some. However the natural flooring and minimal decor allows the wall to sit comfortably and proud!
